AN EDWARDIAN WILLIAM COMYNS & SONS SILVER PIQUE WORK TRINKET BOX OF RECTANGULAR FORM, two birds amongst scrolls inlaid to the cover, worn fabric lining, comes with a handwritten scrap of paper inscribed 'given me by Alan Tritton Coldstream Gds, Great War 1914-18' and a later inscribed piece of paper, Captain Alan George Tritton, 3rd Battalion, The Coldstream Guards was killed in action by a sniper on 26th December 1914 at Rue de l’Epubette, near Bethune, hallmarked London 1910, width 7cm, gross weight 2.56ozt, 79.7 grams (Condition Report: both front corners of the tortoiseshell are damaged (one cracked, the other broken), hall marks rubbed, interior lining heavily worn)
