DR WEBSTERS EARLY PATENT MEDICINE BOTTLE. 7.3ins tall. A lightly smokey green tinged aqua glass featuring a large shield boldly embossed across the top sector of front panel containing three owls surmounted by a lion, with the word LONDON beneath a swirled banner near the bottom. To the right side Dr J WEBSTERS / CEREVISSA ANGLICANA DUPLEX, to left side PREPARED Only/ BY/ EDWD SLEE & CO. Entire embossing is very crude & extremely pronounced/ clear. Cross hinge type base. A superb example presented here with a very realistic estimate, no reserve, there to sell! (BBR sold a similar example in July 2020 for £5,200 hammer). Considerably rarer than a Daffys and a rare opportunity to obtain one of the UKs top/ early medicines.
AMENDED 6/10/23: Everyone has commented on the clarity/ well struckness (?) of the lettering on this piece.
Date has been much debated, discussed at shows around the country. Taking all collectors comments on board I have added c. 1850s period.
