A late 17th century French continental hand cast bronze scoop water basin pot. The basin with zoomorphic double spout and ring handle held by two women's heads. Measures approx. 16 x 30 x 15cm.
The scoop was a utensil used to contain and pour water. It was filled by immersion in a well or a bucket.
The utensil is depicted in one of the paintings by Robert Campin's ' Annunciation Triptych (Merode Altarpiece) ', dated 1427-1432, held at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City.
