A 19th century Swiss made cylinder music box featuring the Royal coat of arms. Made by Paillard of St Croix, Switzerland in c. 1880, playing 8 airs. The crossbanded wooden case with box wood stringing and multi-wood inlays, having a lift-up lid and ebonised interior, the tune card titled 'Piccolo Zither' all white metal player, intact comb and rise and fall zither plate. 19cm x 69cm x 31cm (in working order)
To lid and below the lock on the front panel: The Royal Arms, with the Latin “Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense meaning “ 'Evil unto him that thinks evil of it' and Dieu et mon droit, which means "God and my right", is the motto of the monarch of the United Kingdom. It appears on a scroll beneath the shield of the version of the coat of arms of the United Kingdom
