A rare pewter OEAS quart twin-banded flat-lid flagon', English or possibly Scottish, circa 1700-20
The straight-sided tapering body with two equally spaced narrow fillets, the flat-lid with locating flange, the twin-cusp thumbpiece with ribbed centre, single-curve handle, 40.5 fl.oz., height 20.2cm

Literature: See P. Spencer-Davies Scottish Pewter 1600-1850 (2014), p. 159, fig, 6.41, for two similar communion flagons, referred to as lavers, although with English capacities, attributed to Scotland. The author notes they are extremely scarce, and typically do not have a makers' mark. English examples are also recorded and have been attributed to William Eddon, (fl.1690-1747); Richard Going I (fl.1683-1737) and Samuel Billing (fl.1675-1707)
