Thomas Deykin, Worcester, a lunar lacquered longcase clock the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell with an inside countwheel, the twelve-inch brass break-arch dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals with the centre having a subsidiary seconds dial and engraved with an Oriental scene, with cast-brass female-head spandrels to the four corners, the arch having a subsidiary lunar dial showing the phases of the moon to the centre, the lunar date, the date and the state of the moon, Full Moon, Last Quarter, New Moon, First Quarter, the lacquered case with raised Oriental chinoiserie decoration, the curved-top hood with canted corners, height 233cm. Notes: Thomas Deykin, born Walsall 1677, was a well-known maker recorded as working in Broad Street, Worcester, quite possibly the premises of his father-in-law having married Mary Meeks in 1703. In 1720 he started to number his clocks, continuing to do so until 1750, possibly the year of his death. Reference: Joseph McKenna Clock & Watchmakers of Central England pub.
