A Pair of Islamic Glazed Ceramic Chess Pieces, Possibly 12th Century.
This finely mismatched pair of Islamic chess pieces includes a short pawn-like form in a yellowish glaze with earthy mottling and hints of green, alongside a tall, conical bishop-like figure in a glossy turquoise-blue glaze. Both pieces exhibit the abstraction typical of Islamic figural art, shaped with simple, elegant lines devoid of anthropomorphic detail.
