A Vic officer’s 1857 pattern sword of the Engineer Volunteers, slightly curved, fullered blade 33”, etched on one side with crowned VR cypher in scrolled panels, and on the other with crowned cannon and scrolls “Ubique” and “Engineer Vols” in scrolled panels, semi basket brass guard guard pierced with “honeysuckle” pattern, chequered pommel, plain backstrap, chequered thumb piece, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard (dark patina overall) with 2 rings. GC the blade near VGC, retaining most original finish. Plate 5 £250-275
