Attributed to Andreas Schelfhout (Dutch, 1787-1870) A frozen waterway with ice skaters and koek-en-zopie, with windmills and view to townscape beyond bearing signature lower left oil on panel 46 x 69cm. The present lot, with its sketch-like, nearly faceless figures and bold use of impasto to portions of the clouds and snow, shares similarities to several known works by Schelfhout, including one oil that appeared at Bonhams, 13 November 2007, lot 15. The man and child in the foreground are similar to figures that appear in a sketch by Schelfhout in the collection of the Teylers Museum, Haarlem.
