Exempt Ship Letter. 1842 Entire to Manchester, addressed to "Consignees per Elizabeth" and endorsed by the "Elizabeth", handstamped "LIVERPOOL / EXEMPT SHIP" (ExSL.1), backstamped octagonal "1842 MY6 / LIVERPOOL / SHIP" (S.16) and a Manchester datestamp. Exempt from the ship letter charge, but charged 4d inland postage for a letter over 1oz. A fine strike of this very scarce Exempt Ship handstamp. Photo on Page 52.
