A LATE 19TH / EARLY 20TH CENTURY JAPANESE STAINED TREEN OKIMONO OF A WOODCUTTER, posed with an axe in one hand and a bundle of sticks on his back with ivory handled saw in relief to the back, ivory inset eyes and purse toggle to his hip, the axe inset with ivory details to ech side of the head, height 71cm (Condition Report: splits in the head and through the face, bundle of sticks has a line of glue residue or filler facing his back, a strengthening support has been attached at the rear beneath the sticks, some losses to the sticks, broken fingers to raised hand, missing a piece of inlay from axe head, small hole in base between feet, splits in the base) IMPORTANT NOTE, This lot contains elephant ivory material.
