A 19TH CENTURY OTTOMAN TURKISH QURAN, signed Hafiz Uthman al-Fawzi and dated 1258H./1842
Fifteen lines of text per page in Naskhi script in black ink. Surah titles inscribed in white ink in gilded rectangular cartouches and delineated by a brightly coloured band, gilt circles punctuated by polychromy separating the verses, marginal medallions in the form of finials, mandorlas or rosettes illuminated in gold and polychromy and indicating the section numbers in white ink. Flap binding in embossed and gilded black leather in the centre of a medallion and two half-medallions on either side decorated with vegetal scrolls with rosettes and saz leaves. Border painted with foliage, solid red paint on the inner plates,19.8 x 12.5 cm.
