Late 17th C. to early 18th C. Royal D 'Aubusson wool and silk tapestry forest animated by a gallant scene marked lower right MR-DAUBUSSON COULODON {275 cm H x 250 cm W}.Aubusson became renowned for its carpets and tapestries as early as the 16th century when they began to appear in royal residences. The town's artists developed a new style of weaving that utilized depth perception to create a visually impressive textile. One distinctive aspect of Aubusson tapestry is the use of hand-dyed yarns. The yarns are dyed in-house, allowing for a unique colour palette. This attention to detail and craftsmanship contributes to Aubusson tapestries' unique and high-quality nature.
