A WW11 MERCHANT NAVY CASUALTY GROUP
A S S Observer (Liverpool) casualty group of four medals. Box of issue and condolence slip, named to Charles Milton Roberts. 1939/45-Atlantic-Africa-War Medals, all unnamed as issued.
The son of Charles Henry and Mary Beatrice Roberts aged 20, of 18 Trinity Rd, Hoylake, Wirral, Cheshire. The box is addressed to the parent at the family home.
Commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial. The ship was lost on the 16/12/1942.
She was Torpedoed Of Cape Sao Roque by the U 176, with the loss of 66 of her 81 Crew Members, under cargo.
U 176 sunk 11 ships (53,000 Tons) prior to being sunk herself in May 1943, by the Cuban Navy .Her Commander Reiner Dierkson was posthumously awarded the German Cross in Gold (January 1944)
