** EARLY LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF GIBRALTAR; Remarkable 24 July 1783 EL addressed & written [concerning a shipment of books to be redirected to the Governor of Tangier, Abd al-Malik] in Arabic Sidi T.Fanniss Will arrive if God wants from the hand of the Commander of the Fleet of the Strait Sir Roger Curtis [1746-1816; knighted following his success in destroying Spanish floating batteries in 1782], the Englishman of Gibraltar with content ......to our friend General G.Elliott [1717-90], Governor of Gibraltar [from 1779] and was written by al-T'hir b Abbot al-Haqq Fannis, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco whilst in Constantinople]. This letter is analysed & translated in the academic work Ramon Lourido Y el estudio de las relaciones hispanomarroquíes (2010) - a copy of which is included in the lot - at pages 69-72 and includes a translation & summary in English.
