Guan Yu (160-220 A.D.) was a Chinese military general. Through generations of story telling his deeds and moral
qualities were given immense emphasis making him a popular paradigm of loyalty and righteousness. He was
deified during the Sui Dynasty (581-618 A.D.) and he is still worshiped today.
