GRANDE-ARMEE COVERS EX GERMANY - BLACK "No.22" & "No.50" MARKS + MANUSCRIPT "Allemagne" MARK; 16 Feb./2 Mar. 1813 pair of fine ELs from Magdeburg/Brunswick ti Paris/La Fleche charged "8" or "10" having mainly fine strikes of the black "No.22" or "No.50" "GRANDE-ARMEE" marks on the front respectively; the first was written with the left hand, presumably due to injury (frostbite?) in Russia. Plus unusual and fine 9 Apr. 1813 EL from Ku[h]nsdorf to Orleans with ms "12" changed to "15" rate but most unusually without any handstruck marks and having a manuscript "Allemagne" at top right; from a Captain of the Grenadiers, "58 Regiment... 19th Regiment, Grande Armee, 3rd Corps, Division Souham". Fine trio; plus an unrelated modern French cover. (4 covers) Cross Reference: FRANCE, GERMAN STATES
