Another battle honour of the 1st Hussars is the The Battle of El Bodón, was a successful rearguard action fought on 25 September 1811 by elements of the Anglo-Portuguese army against waves of French cavalry, supported by a division of infantry of the French army during the Peninsular War. According to the historian Alessandro Barbero, the King's German Legion ‘had such a high degree of professionalism that it was considered equal in every way to the best British units.’
