An Edward VII planished silver coffee biggin, Nathan & Hayes, Chester 1909. Having a part lobed baluster body with conforming foot and lid, heavy gadrooned rim, fruit-wood handle and lobed finial.
DATE - c. 1909.
WEIGHT - 761g total weight.
NOTES:
A stylish piece from George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, the planished or hammered surface showing the influence of the arts and crafts movement. With a lip rather than a spout this is not a coffee pot as such but appears to be inspired by a late Georgian coffee biggin, which would have usually had a stand with a spirit burner to keep the coffee warm. The weight is exceptionally high and a sign of the quality of the piece.
DIMENSIONS - Height 9.5 inches (24cm)
