POSTAL ORDER c.1886 pair of proofs in red each perforated ‘CANCELLED’, the first an early state and unappropriated with no country name or value tablets, supplied with value tablet essays on a separate thin tracing paper (So each essay can be viewed in situ at the top right of the proof), these denominated in cents and rupees (so almost certainly for Ceylon), the second proof with value tablet printed in brown comprising ‘STRAITS SETTLEMENTS $3/ THREE DOLLARS", test Serial no. ‘A/1 12345’, and ‘COMMISSION/THREE CENTS’ (denoting the ‘poundage’ revenue). A fascinating and unique trio, almost certainly ex De La Rue archives. Superb!
