A Chelsea Kakiemon octagonal beaker, painted with the Lady in a Pavilion pattern in polychrome enamels, 7cm high, Raised Anchor period, c. 1750-1752 Chelsea produced a faithful copy of a Kakiemon design that refers to an episode in the 11th century novel, The Tale of Genji, where Genji sees the beautiful young girl, Murasaki, lamenting the escape of her nightingale from its cage. Provenance: the Wilders Collection, labelled.
