A pair of George III Gothic silver candlesticks by Thomas Hammond & John Carter, London 1774, in the Strawberry Hill Gothic taste, quatrefoil gadrooned nozzles with acanthus leaf sconces, cluster columns, set on outlined quatrefoil loaded bases, 28.5cm, (11.2ins.) high, 1308.8gms., gross, (2) Strawberry Hill is a Gothic Revival villa that was built in Twickenham, London, by Horace Walpole from 1749 till his death in 1797. It is a typical example of the ''Strawberry Hill Gothic'' style of architecture. In 1842 the house was stripped and the contents sold in a massive sale lasting 24 days.
