A Swiss Figural Wooden Chess Set in Marquetry-Inlaid Case, 19th Century.
A complete Swiss hand-carved figural chess set, the pieces rendered as stylized forest animals and alpine motifs. Each side includes intricately detailed pieces: bears as kings and queens, eagles as bishops, rearing horses as knights, log cabins as rooks, and foxes as pawns. The set is composed of a light and dark side, all carved from warm-toned wood, with the animals standing on moulded bases. Housed in a luxurious, custom-made marquetry-inlaid wooden storage case featuring geometric star motifs on each face and a turquoise velvet-lined interior with divided compartments for organized storage.
