Harold Manchin was born in Burton on Trent in 1889. He attested on the 19th of November 1914 at St Pancras and joined the Grenadier Guards. He had previously served as a territorial in the 6th North Staffs and was a Clerk by profession. He served in France from the 15th of August 1915 until the 10th of March 1919. He was wounded on the 11th of September 1916 and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, gazetted on the 12th of June 1918.



Machin survived the war and was demobbed in March 1920.
