A Captain Robert Scott Antarctic Expedition memorial plaque c. 1913, decorated the four scenes (based on photos that appeared in the Daily Mirror) show the Terra Nova at sail, the polar party with a sled, the five man party at the Pole, and the burial place of Scott, Wilson and Bowers, they are quartered by a central boss, depicting the ship's cat, and corner medallions of Scott, his wife Kathleen, their son Peter and another view of the Scott monument, with traces of paint, slightly misshapen, corners bumped, 26.5 x 36.5 cm
Provenance: Given to the vendor's grandfather who worked for Lady Scott, who gave him this plaque
We believe the panel is in pressed copper, with less then 1mm depth. The known provenance is detailed in the lot description. We are awaiting a letter from the family, images of this will be added to the lot when received.
We believe the plaque to be contemporary to the expedition.
