£3,300
PORTMEIRION POTTERY LIMITED EDITION REPLICA OF THE F.A. CUP, a scale replica of the Football Association Challenge Cup, modelled by Fred Hackney of Brunswick Ceramics Services, Stoke-on-Trent, with certificate No.19 of 500, to commemorate the 1980 F.A.Cup final between West Ham United and Arsenal, played at Wembley on May 10th 1980, West Ham won the cup by one goal to nil, separate base and cover, platinum lustre glaze with bronze coloured glaze internally, height 66cm (Note: after lengthy contract negotiations Portmeirion were given permission by F.A. Secretary Ted Croker to produce these replicas in 1979, the modeller Fred Hackney inspected the trophy at Highbury, Arsenal (who were holders at the time), unfortunately the production costs including the use of a platinum glaze proved prohibitive to the manufacturer and the replica never went into full commercial production, it is estimated that less and two hundred were produced before the project was abandoned in 1980) (condition: some nibbles on the inner rim of lid and base, some of lustre rubbed and scratched especially on the top side of the bottom segment)
