Star Lot : A delightful vintage pair of original Dick Joynt (Irish, 20th century) watercolour on paper paintings including "Lough Tay" (MM: 36 x 32 cm) and "Duncannon" (MM: 36 x 29 cm) both dating to 1977. Nicely observed and rendered in confident gestural strokes in a highly saturated palette. Signed, titled and dated in pencil to base. Housed in matching white washed wooden frames. Joynt is a well renowned Irish artist whose work has fetched €2000 at Whyte's.

Born in Dublin, Dick Joynt travelled extensively as a young man throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. He returned to Ireland in the early 1960s, settling with his wife in Kinsale, Co. Cork and it was there he began to teach himself to paint. In 1966 he and his family moved to the Iveragh Penninsula and lived in Kells near Cahirciveen, Co. Kerry, where this present work was painted. He later moved to Dublin he joined the Dublin Art Foundry in 1972 and decided to focus his attention on sculpture. In 1990 he bought a small farm in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford where he set up the Craan studios. He produced numerous public sculptures throughout his career including The Music Makers by Kenmare Bay and The Ram near Bray, Co. Wicklow.
