£170
Harry Powell for James Powell and Sons, an Arts and Crafts wine glass, circa 1900, the rounded bowl cut with a band of intersecting stylised floral vine and geometric foliate chevrons, on a short plain stem and conical foot, 9.5cm high Note: the cutting style is almost identical in execution to that on the Lotus decanter by Powell in this auction, unusual for the Whitefriars firm, but exemplifying their innovative outlook and willingness to experiment in cut designs and techniques, to adapt to the growing trend for Continental Art Nouveau design, whilst maintaining the simplicity and elegance for which James Powell and Sons became renowned.
