A ceremonial presentation carving sword/knife with inscribed blade, "This Knife was Presented to John Lewis Ricardo Esq M P Chairman of the North Staffordshire Railway Company by the Contractors and others for the purpose of carving an Ox which was roasted whole at the Dane Viaduct upon the occasion of opening Pottery Line to Macclesfield on June 14 1849", with carved stag horn handle, 34 1/2" long overall (Provenance: Reputedly used at the opening of the North Staffordshire Railway Extension Line in 1849)
