Provenance:
Harriott's, a pupil of Samuel Prout, and spent several months each year sketching on the continent when on leave from his job as a clerk in the War Office. He was a friend of John Sell Cotman, who took tracings of many of Harriott's compositions.
This watercolour of Prince Maffei's Palace has been painted from exactly the same spot as Bonington's version of 1826, which is now in the V&A (No.3047-1876).
