Star Lot: A truly stunning original Antique late 19th century oil pastel on board featuring a portrait of a fine gentleman sporting a well kept beard as was fashionable at the time. The verso features inscription "George Read. Born in 27th April. Drowned at Sea 6th October 1888." This masterfully rendered work has particular attention paid to the face and the tender treatment of the eyes. A truly wonderful and unique piece in fantastic condition and housed in original antique wooden frame with gilt matting.
