Original oil and pastel sketch on wooden board by renowned, Society portrait artist, Gerald Leslie Brockhurst, R.A., entitled ‘Portrait of the Artist’s Wife’, circa 1940s and reframed in the 1980s, retaining the original label to the reverse. In the 1930s, Brockhurst was commissioned to paint such socialites as Marlene Dietrich and The Duchess of Windsor. Brockhurst was elected to the Royal Academy in 1937 and moved to the United States in 1939. The following year, he was divorced from his first wife and remarried. Both wives were muses and modelled prolifically in his work. Measures 74.5cm by 60cm overall.
