Harry Powell for James Powell and Sons, Whitefriars, an Arts and Crafts air twist wine or Champagne glass, circa 1890, the bell shaped bowl with trapped air line decoration, on a tapered stem of three helix strands, on a radial ribbed conical foot, 16cm high Note: from the 1880s Harry Powell experimented with trapped air techniques, in the 18th century manner, re interpreting the traditional methods in a new and innovative way to create contemporary designs. This appears to be a very rare example of the use of these techniques. See Evans, W. et al. 1995, Whitefriars Glass, Museum of London, p.79, pl.78 for illustrated examples of this stem and bowl pattern on different glasses from the same series.
