Frank Moss Bennett - Two original oil painting on board artworks by historical painter Frank Moss Bennett. The two paintings featuring portraits of a 'Woodwind Player' and a 'Jester'. Believed to have been created for a 'Costume' series of cigarette cards produced by Mardon, Son and Hall of Bristol, of which Bennett created artworks for 50 cards in the series. Both are framed and glazed, and signed to the bottom of the piece. Both also measuring approximately 30 cm x 24.5 cm.
Frank Moss Bennett (1874 - 1952) was a British portrait painter, known for his historical scenes and architecture. Bennett was educated at the Clifton College where he met Edward Francis Wells who would become a lifelong friend and fellow artist. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1898 to 1928, as well as Liverpool Art Gallery from 1899 to 1932, and his portrait of Theodore Martin is at the National Portrait Gallery in London. More recently his work has been auctioned off at both Bonhams and Christie's.
