Medals (3) of 269713 (488440) Pioneer Arthur Chantry R.E. Queen's South Africa Medal with the clasps 'Transvaal' 'Wittebergen', 'Driefontein', 'Paardeberg' and 'Cape Colony', British War Medal 1914-1920, and Allied Victory Medal 1914-1918. A resident of Peterborough. Enlisted on 24th October 1888 into the Royal Regiment of Artillery. After initial training at the Depot RA he was posted on 8th September 1890 to India and joined 34th Battery R.A. Transferred to the Army Reserve on 24 th October 1895. Recalled to the Colours on 4th December 1899 and served in the Boer War with the 82nd Battery, Royal Field Artillery, as a Gunner (69199). Returned to England on 27th June 1901 and medically discharged on 23rd October 1901. Re-enlisted on 9th September 1914 and joined Railway Troops, Royal Engineers. Compulsory transferred on 22nd February 1918 to the Labour Corps and saw further service in Salonika. Discharged 23rd January 1919.
