A Boer War Queen's South Africa medal with 5 clasps, 'Relief of Ladysmith', 'Tugela Heights', 'Laing's Nek', 'Belfast' and 'South Africa 1901', impressed naming to "9676 PTE J. PRATT, RIFLE BRIGADE". Private John Pratt, 1st/2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade. Born in around 1870 in St. Leonard's, Middlesex. Pratt attested in October 1888, served abroad in East India from 21st February 1891 - 29th November 1894; Hong Kong from 30th November 1884 - 5th February 1896, followed by three years at home before going to South Africa from 13th December 1899 - 10th October 1901. Medal rolls state entitlement to South Africa 1901, Belmont, Belfast, Elandslaagte, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith and Laing's Nek clasps.
