A PAIR OF ANTIQUE 20 BORE CANNON BARREL FLINTLOCK SIDELOCK PISTOLS, fitted with 6½'' turnoff barrel made as flintlocks by J. Stanton, London and subsequently converted to percussion by drum and nipple, their butts are fitted with silver grotesque mask caps, the thumb plate on their wrists bear the family crest of a cockerel, the actions are nicely engraved and the hammer replacements have been engraved to match that on their bodies, Jonathan Stanton was apprenticed to William Turvey in 1739, made Free of the Gunmakers Company 1747, and became Master 1765, he is recorded in Holborn, London from 1748 and died about 1766, the pistols are in excellent overall and working condition (2)
