The remaining personal effects of Harwood Elmes Robert Steele (1897-1978): a trench art brass shell tobacco box made from an 18 pound shell 1915 with Canada insigna together with a trench art paper knife, a mahogany folding mirror, a steel shot and a tile from Albert- collected by Flora Steele, (4). He served with the Canadian and British services in both world wars. Captain of Canadian Infantry, 2nd Division; Enlistment: May 5, 1915, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was awarded the M.C. and twice mentioned in despatches. He served with distinction on the battlefields of Flanders, rising to the rank of Major, ultimately becoming Lieut-Colonel.
