A Chinese dish with the portrait of Queen Victoria and the British crown, dated 1757, 18/19th C.

Description:

Dim.: 31 x 25,5 cm

This exceptional Chinese dish for the English market combines the portrait of Queen Victoria and the British crown, with the date 1757 below the Queen's portrait. In 1757, the East India Company took control of India. This dish likely commemorates this occasion, so it was probably ordered at a slightly later date, possibly in 1767. The enamelling on the piece is reminiscent of Canton enamels from the period.
