2 metal bicorn tins, first made by Edward Smith of Eaton Sq, London with hand painted "Brig Genl H.J.S. Landon", second unidentified, with some chipping to paint, about very fine. Herman James Shelley Landon was commissioned in 6th Foot in 1879, served in the 1898 Sudan Campaign and was MID, Temporary CO of 2nd Bn in Boer War and MID, appointed CB 1911, CO of 1st Bn in India 1902-06, promoted Brig Gen 1910 in command 3rd Bde and commanded 3rd Bde in 1914 through retreat from Mons, Battles of Marne and Aisne, promoted Maj Gen Oct 1914. In WW1 MID 3 more times, awarded CMG and Croix de Guerre. (2B)
