** BRISTOL (STAPLETON) - MULTI-LETTER EX FRANCE TO P.O.W. - BUT HELD IN PARIS P.O.'s "CABINET NOIR"; 16 Nov. 1806 EL (unsealed; with 4 separate letters - from the addressee's wife, mother and father, but with a fourth letter apparently to a different POW from his wife) from "Blainville[-sue-Mer]" addressed in full to; "M Jerome Dutot, Prisonnier de guerre, d'abord du Vaisseau Brave au la Prison de Stablethon pres Bristol" with v. fine "P.48.P/COUTANCE" plus faint red Paris "P.P.P.P." on the front and "15" prepaid rate on reverse, but clearly never delivered - these letters still in transit after Napoleon's suspension of Mail exchange from 21 Nov. 1806 are thought to have remained in the Paris P.O.'s Secret Office ("Cabinet Noir") - one corner of the contents has been torn away (?by the censor).
