English School (19th century) - a cathedral interior with figures, oil on canvas, 30" x 25"
In good original unlined and unrestored condition, there is some fine bitumen in places but the most serious thing is the tear which has been badly patched and this runs through the figures in the lower right hand corner, this tear is jagged in shaped and extends for approximately 5-6" in length and approximately 3" across, there is a further tear in the centre of the composition in the roof of the cathedral and a small tear to the left hand side of the central damage, the work has dirt and discoloured varnish across the entire surface and is contained within its original partially ornate gilt plaster and wooden frame, there are small pieces of plaster missing from the frame.
