A beautiful antique original watercolour on paper painting by the artist Claude Hayes RI ROI (1852-1922). Depicts a scene of a low-lying landscape dotted with haystacks in Hayes' typical loose brushwork and sienna tones. Hayes is highly collectable, with top selling price at Whytes being €2031.
Mm: 34 x 43 cm in frame.

A Dublin-born landscape and portrait painter, Hayes first showed at the RHA in 1874 and presented there a total of twenty-one works. In 1876 he exhibited at the RA - a connection that lasted 40 years. He was elected to membership of the RI in 1886 and the ROI in 1883. He is best remembered for his pastoral scenes, with their softly diffused light and neat lines of haystacks. His work is in various public collections in England and Ireland including the Ulster Museum and the Leeds City Art Gallery.
