A scarce Hodges' Patent elastic powered catapult "gun", to fire a bolt, 47" overall, octagonal twist "barrel" 30" engraved "T.E. Hodges, Patentee, London", the brass muzzle mount in the form of two robed figures wearing classical Greek helmets, the heads providing the forward securing points for the elastic; swivelling breech cover engraved with cornucopia and scrolls and allowing access to the release mechanism, with cocking butterfly catch on the right side; wooden fullstock having painted grain, carved fore end grip, chequered wrist and numbered "129", with engraved steel trigger guard and butt plate. Good Condition (small area of the butt has been wormed and filled). Plate 35.
