AN UNUSUAL AND GOOD QUALITY ASH YORKSHIRE SINGLE CHAIR, CIRCA 1660. The uprights with applied split balusters and scroll finials flanking twin cusped and scroll carved arcaded splats centred on tulips above a V carved pendant, with twin plank, recessed seat with moulded rails joined by turned legs, and a double baluster turned stretcher with plain side rails., 102cm high 46.5cm wide 40cm deep seat height 43cm Note - Ash is found in a lot of Yorkshire furniture as a secondary timber to Oak, particularly in backstools. This chair being much less commonplace made entirely from Ash. An added feature is that Ash can attain a remarkable colour and surface patination, as seen here.
