TWO GERMAN FAIENCE STEINS, mid 18th century, one of cylindrical form painted in manganese, blue and yellow with a barque beside a small pontoon and a man smoking a pipe, on a sponged manganese ground, the hinged pewter cover engraved "JDM", 8" high over thumbpiece, the other of slight barrel form painted in manganese with a motto "Es Sieve mein..." with a blue line quatrefoil border on sponged ground, with plain hinged pewter cover, 8 1/4" high (Est. plus 21% premium inc. VAT)
First has two small chips to footrim under the panel, a 3? crack running from rim through body near handle and two other smaller hairlines to other side, flaking to glaze on handle near top, some give to hinge, second has 2? crack running from rim to half way down panel, two smaller hairlines to rim, minor flaking to rim and handle
