The original of this subject by Reynolds was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1788 (no.387), and is now in the Detroit Institute of Fine Arts (Literature. Manning no. 2086) The subject was later engraved by Joseph Collyer ARA in 1790 and entitled 'Felina'.
Various other versions and later copies of the subject by various hands are known. Some remain untraced.
The copy at Minster appears to be by a follower of Reynolds, possibly by a member of his studio.
