WW1 British War Medal and The Allied Victory Medal awarded to: 37933 Pte George Haywood. 1st Battalion Somerset Light Infantry who was registered as killed in action on the 14 April 1918 during the assault on the village of La Bassee France. George was 28 years of age, arrived in theatre in November 1917,recived facial burns in battle in January but was returned to the lines by early February. George was in Theatre less than five month and his body was new found. Only son of John Haywood and the late Margaret Haywood. He is remembered on Panel 3 of the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing in Belgium. (see other photos). ATGDOTSAITMWWRM.
