Hedley Fitton was a British printmaker, best known for his intricate etchings of the architecture and cathedrals of Paris, Edinburgh, Florence, and London. His works are highly detailed and were often used as accompaniments to journalistic writing: his best-known pieces include The Pantheon, Rome and The Rose Window, Notre Dame. Born in 1859 in Manchester, England, Fitton went on to study at the Warrington School of Art in Cheshire and later worked as an editor and illustrator for The Daily Chronicle in Manchester. He exhibited works at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon during his lifetime. Today, his works can be found in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, among others. Fitton died on July 19, 1929 in Surrey, England.
