19th century pierced and carved ivory casket of sarcophagus form, on four scroll supports, the side and top panels with fine pierced scrolling detail, the casket surmounted with grapes and grape leaves, lined in quilted pink silk with the initials M and S and a crown to the interior of the lid, 17cm x 10.5cm x 11.5cm (h). by repute the property of the Duchess of Somerset, given to the vendor's great grandmother by the Duchess, his godmother, label to the base C H H Schuh, Interlaken
